Francesco DeMichele - Parents Annulled Marriage Research

Post by meovino »

My great-great-grandfather was Francesco DeMichele born Feb 1st, 1891 in Bitonto, Bari, Italy. I'm told from a cousin that Francesco's mother Maria DeMichele married a man, Vito Achille, who was from a very rich and influential family. The family disapproved and annulled the marriage. Maria ended up pregnant and ended up giving her newborn son her surname. I know that Vito remarried to Giuseppa Saracino and that Francesco has two half brother's (Francesco and Vito Michele Achille). I was wondering if a record of this annulled marriage would still be available anywhere. I am mainly seeking this in order to find information bout Francesco's mom's family, as I have not been able to find/confirm anything on that side. Additionally - on Francesco's birth record in Bitonto, it doesn't list the father, just his mother Maria DeMichele who was 21 years old at the time.

Possible birth act for Maria De Michele in Bitonto in 1871.
I found no birth act for her in 1870.

Great, thank you! While the 1869 births will indicate that she was in fact 21 at the time as shown at Francesco's birth, to me personally the 1871 birth makes more "sense" to me for 3 reasons:

1) Here she would've been younger than her "husband" Vito, not older.
2) Her name here is just Maria, not Maria Teresa... while the Teresa could've been left off Francesco's birth record, this record was just Maria.
3) Maria's mother's name here was Anna. While a common name, Francesco's third daughter's name was Anna, possibly named after her (his potential grandmother).

Unfortunately these speculations might be too great and there's not much I can go off of, but I will keep looking, thanks again!

Probably doesn't help but Francesco came over the USA in May 1910 and married here Apr 23 1919.
