I have attached a birth certificate for Maria Montemoretti, who was a foundling. While researching my family tree, I have come across a couple of situations whereby a foundling was born, and was given the name of the family they came from (although unknown at the time of birth), and given a surname that was extremely close to that of the actual father. Because my family members are listed on the birth certificate, I think it's possible that the birth mother was known, but that's just a hunch. I'm hoping that someone with better translation skills than mine, can shed some light on the situation.
I appreciate your help!

Help translating birth certificate claiming abandoned child
Re: Help translating birth certificate claiming abandoned child
Caterina Marinelli, daughter of Giuseppe Toscano, declared she had found the baby in the street, so she was recorded as born of unknown parents.
The baby seemed to be 8 days old.
However, she asked to be given the baby to raise her, and she was allowed to do it.
At that time, it happened that very poor people, declared their own children as foundlings, and then asked to be left them for raising, to get the little money that was given to those who did that.
Also, it is important to notice that "artificial" milk did not exist, at that time; so, Caterina could feed the baby only if she was her mother, or if she had had another baby (living or dead).

Re: Help translating birth certificate claiming abandoned child
The child was named: Maria Montemorelli.
Just to clarify what Pippo has said:
The woman who found the child and registered her birth was Caterina Marinelli, the daughter of Vincenzo Marinelli, 33 yo, wife of Giuseppe Toscano.
It seems to suggest where the baby was found in Marsicovetere – No 6 Via Vilaria (Valaria?) G......
If you have any more records needing translating, I suggest you link us to the online record which are much easier to read and to work with. Thanks.

Re: Help translating birth certificate claiming abandoned child
Thanks so much for the clarification. Would Maria have been given the surname Toscano?

The record states the baby was given the name Maria Montemorelli (not Toscano).
She was handed over to Giuseppe Toscano's wife, Caterina Marinelli, who found the baby, to take care of.
