Post by italianmom »

Please translate the following birth registry:

Image 68/69 suppl. 2 #63

Please provide: Registry date; date, time, place of birth; names of parents with their ages, occupations and where they lived.

I assumed he died because my great-grandfather was Guiseppe.

Thank you!

December 15, 1853 at comune offices in Marsala appeared Antonino Giacalano, age 30, farmer, domiciled in Marsala on Via San Clemente, who presented a male child and declared that the child was born of his wife Brigida Sciacca, age 24, domiciled with him, and of the declarant. The child was born that day at 1 p.m. in their home and was given the name of Giuseppe.

Giuseppe Giacalone was baptized on December 15, 1853 in the Parish of the Chiesa Madre.

Thank you for all of my translations. This should be the last of them. I could never find three birth registries. The town had mailed me death certificates on them a long time ago that stated how old they were but that didn't help. Some dates don't exist in the registry and other ones didn't have an index and had over 500 pages and the quality of them was bad so I just decided not to do it.
Marsala's death registries for the early years are so small it was difficult to read plus most of them didn't have indexes. I have learned a lot on this journey and have you, Angela and Pippo to thank.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!
