Monarca, Marzano
Monarca, Marzano
Hi everyone,
I'm researching part of my family from Sessa Aurunca, Campania. Specifically, I'm trying to find the marriage record between someone named Gennaro Monarca and Agnese Marzano. Their first known child I found in the records was named Girolama Monarca, born 1838 in Sessa, so I assume that they got married before 1838. Based on Girolama's birth record, her father Gennaro would have been born about 1817 and her mother Agnese about 1820.
However, I can't find the marriage record (unless I missed it). Also, based on the records, Marzano isn't a common name from Sessa, so I'm beginning to think Agnese Marzano was from a nearby town or city.
Any help or guidance is appreciated!

Re: Monarca, Marzano
Look for Agnese's death record. It should give her town of birth. If she was from another town the marriage probably took place there.

Re: Monarca, Marzano
I think the issue is that Sessa Aurunca deaths are not available in the necessary period. Agnese Marzano was at least alive by 1858 for the death of her son Giovanni:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
She is not in the indices for 1859 or 1860. 1861 has no index and I don't have time to look right now.
EDIT: Also alive by 1859 for the marriage of her son Gaetano http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 1.jpg.html
I looked in some nearby villages with no luck. When this happens I like to use websites like this: https://www.mappadeicognomi.it/index.ph ... o&s=Genera
to help look at prevalence of the surname to see what towns nearby it can be found in. In this case, many. For Monarca, not so much. While there is overlap of the two in (presumably) Sessa Aurunca itself according to the map there is also overlap in what appears to be Napoli, Caserta, and perhaps Nola. It is a little hard to tell sometimes with the circles. The issue is that these data are pulled from modern lists and not what names were in place in the early 1800s. But it can help sometimes. Napoli would be a good bet.

Wow, thank you for all the help so far. I had began looking in nearby towns for their marriage record with no luck. I'll check Napoli next.
A birth record for one of Agnese's children claims that her father was named Giacomo Marzano, but I don't think he was from Sessa either. Unless he moved there with Agnese and passed away there.

Re: Mo Domenico era nato nel 1776 in Sessa da Gennaro (i nomi di ripetono). Ricordo tale famiglia in una ricernarca, Mar
Domenico, father of Gennaro (born in 1817) married in 1813 with Catetrina Verrengia. He was born in Sessa in 1776 by Gennaro (the names are repeated).
I remember in a research on the Onciario Cadastre of 1751 and 1763 that the family was represented in 1751 by D. Luzio (Lucio) Monarca and in 1763 by D. Domenico Monarca of D. Lucio.
I had made several notes even though the research concerned another family of Sessa.

Re: Monarca, Marzano
Hi
Agnese Marzano and Gennaro Monarca had at least 10 sons. The first Girolama on 1838 (died on July 5th 1888) who married Angelo Costa and than, widow, Emilio Moscati and the last Giovanna on 1863 (died on April 10 1927) who married Luigi Amoroso.
Gennaro was born on July 15th 1817 and died on May 15 1881, he was son of Domenico (1776-1856) and Caterina Verrengia (1780-1826), both belonging to nobles Sessa's families.
Agnese is probably descendant of a branch of Marzano family which controlled Sessa area until 1464. Unfortunately I do not know where the marriage took place and when, but certainly not in Sessa.
It might in cities where Marzano branches had properties and titles like Monteleone (today called Vibo Valencia) but marriage data there are not available on line so far.
One of the Agnese sons was Cesare Leone (born on 1842) and some of his sons emigrated in USA, like Cesare Gennaro, Luigi, Giovan Battista.
I have quite a lot of info on Monarca family. If you need more please contact me at your convenience and I will be happy to try to assist you

L'HO TROVATO!!! FOUND IT!!!
I found the marriage between Donna Agnese Marzano and Don Gennaro Monarca! I reached out to a Facebook group, filled with people from Sessa Aurunca, and a cousin messaged me with clues. The cousin sent me PAINTINGS of Agnese and her paternal grandfather named Raffaele Marzano. On Raffaele's painting, he is holding a card that says "Giugliano". I thought this was a strange way to spell Giuliano, so I searched it up and found a town nammed "Giugliano in Campania" not far from Sessa Aurunca, and after checking the marriages, I found them! Take a look:
