Rosario Incognito Coclite

Post by ItalianbellaSA »

Good morning everyone!

This is in regard to an old post of mine concerning my great grandfather, Rosario Incognito.. I found that my great grandfather, Rosario Incognito, was married to Carmela Sciammetta before my great grandmother, Carmela Cappadona. I found Carmela Sciammetta's death record which states she was the wife of Rosario Incognito. I wanted to find their marriage record so I can then look to see if they had any children. I found a marriage record dated June 25, 1882, which states that Carmela Sciametta was married to Rosario Coclite. The ages match and the names of Carmela's parents are correct. It also correctly states that Rosario was born in Giosoia Marera. I then remembered an old of mine post where someone translated Rosario Incognito's birth record. Sure enough Coclite surname is mentioned! This has to be the record, buy why would Rosario's last name be Coclite? Rosario was a foundling baby. If you read my previous post you will see where Coclite is mentioned. The records for Rosario In every other record his surname is Incognito? Here are links to the records:

I am confused, to say the least, how he could go from Incognito to Coclite! Any information to help me clear up this mystery would be appreciated. As always, I thank you all in advance for any and all your help and time.

It seems you did not read my reply to your last message in your other post here below. You should click '2' to read the second group of messages.
I wrote that:
-- the birth act of Rosario Incognito can no longer be read from that link (can you post it again?).
-- my idea is that the surname Coclite was given by the priest at the baptism, while Incognito by the Comune on the civil records. Later he used both surnames and there has been a mistake at the moment of the marriage. But I'll look again at the acts.
