Need help with Latin church records
These translation requests are part of a larger and more complex request for assistance from several weeks ago, which has not yet gotten any replies. I've broken it down into smaller pieces to see if that will work. There are three Latin church records I need full translation help with; I put in parentheses what I think I'm seeing, using the Italian names.
1. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=745930
the second record in the left column
(Ignazio Lorenzo Gaetano Caporrimo 1769 birth to parents [Antonio Caporrimo & Anna DiLorenzo])
2. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=745931
record #13 in left column
(Antonina Caporrimo, wife of Ignazio, 1818 death {her maiden name, not given here, is Marino})
3. source: from Processetti of 1844 marriage of [Liborio Favaloro & Marezza Caporrimo]
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 5.jpg.html
(1819 Ignazio Caporrimo marriage to Cosima Ajello)
- does this record indicate that Ignazio Caporrimo is a widower?
- does this record indicate that Ignazio's father is Rosario Caporrimo?

Re: Need help with Latin church records
I try n. 2 (record 13):
They are in Italian, not Latin, with some abbreviations, that I hope to understand correctly) :
On 9 July 1818 Antonina Caporrimo, wife of Ignazio, 44 yo, having received all the sacraments, [died] and was buried [in our parish].

Re: Need help with Latin church records
N. 1 is in Latin, I read the same names as you. Date is 9 Aug. 1769.
Can't read the priest name and the last part with godparents' names.

I would say yes to both questions
First wife’s name looks like Antonina
Ignazio’s parents : Rosario, and Anna Caporrimo.
Looking at the wording of the names for Cosima Ajello’s parents, where the mother is recorded with her maiden name, I think that Caporrimo is the maiden name of the mother of this Ignazio

Re: Need help with Latin church records
Thank you Paola & Cedrone,
Reading the record in light of your concurrence reveals several confoundments about these records. Based on other evidence it is believed that:
- Rosario is not the correct name for the father of Ignazio; the parents are [Antonio Caporrimo & Anna DiLorenzo]. Rosario is the name of the father of Antonina Marino, Iganzio's first wife.
- Ajello (or variant) is the correct surname of Cosima; her parents are understood to be [Gioachino Ajello & Maria Romeo]

#1-the godparents- I'm going out on a limb with this one and hope that mmogno, Pippo, or Livio can confirm my thoughts on this one-
I believe that the godfather was Antonino d'Angelo and the godmother Ignazia d'Angelo. Her relationship to the Antonino is not given in the record.
***However, I believe that what follows the godfather's name is the name of the proxy sponsor or proxy godfather, D. Ignazio (can't make out his surname). I think the words "procuratio nomine," which follow Antonino d'Angelo's name in the record, mean that the person whose name follows these words in the record, was his representative at the baptism ceremony. So this Don Ignazio physically "stood in" for him, but Antonino d'Angelo was really the infant's godfather, although not physically present at the ceremony.

Re: Need help with Latin church records
In rereading the record, I may actually have it backwards with D. Ignazio the godfather and Antonino d'Angelo, the proxy godfather who was present at the baptism.. I'm hoping someone else will confirm or dispute my interpretation. In any case, I do believe that one of them was a proxy.

Thanks, Paola. I was too late to edit my initial reply after I reread the document.paola52 wrote: 09 Mar 2021, 15:25 Hi

I am also working in the Caporrimo family of Tommaso Natale.
FYI:. Antonio Caporingo was born, in Capaci, in 1733 to Matteo and Agata.

Re: Need help with Latin church records
All,
Thank you for your attention to these documents, which seem to have complications that I hadn't imagined. It's a lot for me to digest, so it will take a while. Matt and I will be sharing notes in the coming days; it would be complex to post up all of my Caporrimo research here, as it's not ready for prime time. We'll see what develops.
