Diorio and Codella in Sessa Aurunca, Caserta, Campania, Southern Italy

Post by lmarsango »

Hello and thank for your help!
I'm looking for info on Antonio Diorio and wife Adelaide Codella. They had a son Michele (Michael) in 1886 in Sessa Aurunca, Caserta, Campania, Italy. They were were married in Aug 1885 in Italy I believe. They may have had 3 other children that died (per census records). Their other surviving children all born in America are Louis, Joseph, Frank, John and Elizabeth. They came to New York around 1894 and lived in Long Island then moved to Paterson Passaic New Jersey. I'm looking for more information in Italy, prior to their coming to America. I could not find them on any ship manifests or any immigration records. I would like to know about their parents and any information I can find.

Here's another transcription on the Family Search site; it's for an "Antonio D' iorio Triplet," November 1, 1852 in Sessa Aurunca:

Thank you. I've got a birthdate for Antonio of April 9 1864. This info comes from his obituary.

I found 30-year-old Adelaide and her boys Michele (age 8) and Enrico (age 5) on the following page of the steamship Bolivia's manifest, arriving in New York on December 10, 1895:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704

They're passengers #48, #49 and #50. I don't see Antonio's name in the list with them. Maybe he came the year before, as you suggested. It was common for the husbands to immigrate first, get jobs, and send for their families to join them.

The steamship Neustria arrived in New York on September 13, 1892. Have a look at passenger #37 on this page of the manifest:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704

This passenger is 27-year-old Antonio di Jorio. My experience is that ages listed on manifests are usually somewhat inaccurate, and the spellings of surnames even more so. His age is about right, and the spelling is close to that of your Antonio. Since Italians often travelled with friends and relatives, I'd look carefully at this page, as well as the other manifest in my earlier post, to see if you recognize potential siblings or cousins of Adelaide and Antonio.

Good Luck,

Joe

The antenati site will tell you what military records the archives hold.
From there you can go direct to the Caserta site (patrimonio) or click on contact and it will pull up an email with their address.

I'm now looking for parents of Adelaide Codella. She and Antonio married Aug 1885. Are marriage records available for that year anywhere? Thanks again!

Unfortunately, Sessa Aurunca's records are not all online.

You should contact the Diocese of Sessa Aurunca
