Marriage Record

Post by italianmutt »

Hello! I am hoping someone has better eyes than I do. I am struggling to find the marriage record of Pasqual Cioffi and Brigida Menditto from Maddaloni. The marriage would have taken place between 1821-1834.

Do you have a death date for Brigida? Are you sure she was born in Maddaloni? They would be married in her hometown if not.

I think potentially this one with a phonetic misspelling:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 2.jpg.html
4 Feb 1816
Pasquale Cioffi, 24, son of Giuseppe Cioffi (died 13 Mar 1812) & Marianna Giglio, 50
Brigida Vendetto, 21, daughter of Nicola Vendetto, 48, & Giuditta Montefusco
Apricena, Caltanissetta, Grottolella, Mazzarino, Montefredane, Salerno, San Severo, Vasto

I would agree that this is likely the marriage record! Names can be spelled so differently in various records... I can't tell you how many spellings I have of my ancestors' names! The way in which their names were dictated on each record depends upon the verbal pronunciation of the person speaking to the official... most of our ancestors probably couldn't read or write either, so I would think many of them wouldn't even know how to spell their name? (Meaning there was no real "correct" spelling of their names!).

Pretty sure rlw254 found the correct record!!! Nice work!

Hello,

By coincidence I saw your posting about relatives of mine from Maddaloni.

Michele Antonio Cioffi (born in 1830) was one of the children of Pascuale Cioffi and Bridida Vendeto.

Michele A Cioffi then marries Filomena Papa and one of their childen is my great-grandfather, Michelangelo Cioffi Papa, who then marries Maria Antonia Di lella Pascuarella.

Does this seem familiar to you?

George Cioffi
