Birth Record Translation

Post by bnic84 »

Are you able to assist me with the translation of my grandmother's birth record? Her name was Agata Failla. She was born on August 24, 1903 in Floridia, Siracusa, Italy.

Her birth record is Numero 334: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2110810

Here it is...

#334
Dated 26 August 1903 at 10:40 AM at the town hall in Floridia
Before the official appeared Giuseppa Adorno, 24, midwife residing in Floridia, to declare that at 4 PM on the 24th of the current month, in the house in via Palestro #124, to Raffaela Musumeci, housewife, wife of Giuseppe Failla, butcher(?), both residing in Floridia, was born a female child who was presented to the official and to whom was given the name AGATA
To the above and this act were present as witnesses weere Alfonzo Lentini, 63, middleclass; and Giuseppe Creco, 65, middleclass, both residing in this town.
The declarant made the announcement of the above birth as she assisted in the birth, and in place of the husband of Musumeci because he was faraway.
The document was signed by the declarant and the witnesse to the recording of the act with the official.

Here is a son, Antonino, born in 1906.
In this record (#61) Giuseppe Failla is a beekeeper [apicoltore]

Beekeeper? That's facinating! Giuseppe & Raffaela had 7 kids. I believe he died of Malaria in 1910 and she died in 1950.

Yes, I thought you might find that interesting. :D

Here is another son, Giovanni, born in April 1910 - Giuseppe is still alive AND still a beekeeper :-)

What is the best way to find the birth certificate for Agata's husband, Concetto Calabro? He was born in Floridia on 4/10/1897. From what I can tell, Floridian birth records prior to 1900 have not been made public yet. Any direction you can provide would be appreciated.

If Agata and Concetto were married in Floridia, their birth acts would have been included in their marriage allegati (attachments). These allegati are often not indexed, so you should find their marriage first, then look for their Matrimoni Allegati in that year.

It appears that online marriage allegati for Floridia begins 1926 thru 1940...with several years missing.

At this site is the email link for the comune of Floridia

You can write to request the birth act of Concetto Calabro.
Include your photo ID with the request.

Sometimes the towns respond quickly, and sometimes not.
You may want to also send a "snail mail" request which includes the ID and an email address.

At this time the town of Floridia is experiencing major issues with climate. See this article.
