1812 Marriage Record: Help with Transcription Summary?

Post by Jen Bovitz Cobas »

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

Hello! I have a marriage record for Nicola Porcelli and Maria Angela Bocchino, married on 21 Nov 1812 in Apice. I can't make out bride and groom parents' names, ages, place names?

Any help would be so appreciated!

Thank you!

Groom is age 19, farmer, residing in strada San Pietro, son of Domenico Porcelli and Geremia Giuliano
Bride is age 22, residing Estrada S. Nicola, daughter of Saverio Bocchino and deceased Nicoletta Xxxx?

Thanks T!

I am very grateful for your help. Do you know if the name Geremia was often used as a girl's name? Can you make out where the bride's parents are living? It doesn't look like Apice to me...Hopefully, someone can make out Nicoletta's surname. It's such a process, but so happy to have found the record!

An index of the above marriage between Nicola Porcelli and Maria Angela Bocchino (number 21, date 6 Nov 1812)

Does this help anyone decipher bride's mother's surname?? Thanks!

So the groom's father is Giovanni, not Domenico.

Yes, it says the bride's parents were living in the same town - in Strada S. Nicola as T has said.

The bride's mother's surname is a challenge. I know what it looks like, but I can not find anything close to what it looks like in the town, so will keep thinking about it.

Names are a bit clearer in the publication of marriages banns (right side of image)

Groom's mother's name is Geremia Giangregorio

Bride's mother's name looks like Nicoletta Camerlingo.

Geremia IS a female Italian given name.

And... I have no idea why I wrote Domenico instead of Giovanni...

I was just about to post the Pubblication as well, T. Good catch on both surnames. It's interesting because in the marriage record Geremia's surname is clearly Giuliano, which appears in the province, yet it differs in both the index and the pubblication. (There are lots of Giangregorio's in the town, of course.)

Yes. I noticed that. It presents a puzzle as to which surname is correct and which is in error.

I'm so impressed! Great detective work! Tessa and Angela, I am so exited with your observations. And the marriage banns -- I didn't even think to look there. Super idea. And it is very curious that she has three surname variations. Is there one that you believe would typically be more accurate?

True. Not sure. I had a look through the processetti to see whether there was a birth/baptism record there for the groom but there's not a lot there.

Generally, what is written in the marriage record, over-rides what is written in the index. But, because the Pubblication, which would have been written first, has the name Giangregorio in it, as does the index to the marriage records, then I'm not so sure.
