* "Piperno" is a volcanic rock used for streets and buildings. A piperniere was a stonecutter who worked this kind of rock.

In 1840 Garibaldi wasn't so well-known, and the Papal State was an enemy of his.

At the moment I can't find it (perhaps I misinterpreted something). The earliest I can find it listed through my own relatives is 1882, the year of his death. But I'm sure I've seen it before that year, but trying to figure it out isn't worth the effort required...
