Finding emigration records or Italian census

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Finding emigration records or Italian census

Post by tomassid »

My 2x great grandfather brought my great grandmother to America in 1907, her father was already here by then. He then seemed to disappear off the grid. Can't find him in the cemeteries here in Pgh, he is not on any US census, no passports records on NARA that I can find, I can't find him coming back to America so birds of passage don't apply here. Thinking he returned to Italy so I checked the death records thru to the 1940's in Italy on both his hometown and birth town, nothing. I really need emigration records or Italian census which I believe is virtually impossible to get, any ideas would be helpful.

well if I am no wrong abt your search, Domenico Tornincasa was born on 20 apr 1871 in Aversa same birthplace of Maria Pascalucci ( I posted the birth record above) and this is the birth of Domenico:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043630
son of Nicola, 24 old, son of late Domenico and of Paola Arena..
Domenico went in USA on 1904 and his surname was mispelled in Cornincasa:
Name Domenico Cornincasa - Tailor
Sex Male
Age 32
Immigration Date 02 Dec 1904
Immigration Place Ellis Island, New York City, New York, United States
Residence Place Aversa
Marital Status Married
Nationality Italy, Italian
Second Additional Person's Name Leopoldo Affamanno (?)
Page Number 78
Affiliate Line Number 0015
Departure Port Napoli
Ship Name Citta di Napoli
Digital Folder Number 005262885
Image Number 00445

tailor, joining to his brother in law Leopoldo Affamanno (spell?)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJNS8-Y48

if you see are the marking note of naturalization and idf I read well he naturalized on 1941..

However... the wife of Leopoldo was Marianna Tornincasa sister of Domenico and she went in USA on 1905
Name Marianna Tornincasa
Sex Female
Age 32
Immigration Date 01 May 1905
Immigration Place Ellis Island, New York City, New York, United States
Residence Place Aversa
Marital Status Married
Nationality Italy, Italian South
Second Additional Person's Name Leopoldo Caffumante
Page Number 49
Affiliate Line Number 0011
Departure Port Napoli
Ship Name Citta di Milano
Digital Folder Number 005262984
Image Number 00339

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJFQH-QW5
joining to Leopoldo in Phila, PA,USA

and her previous trip on 1902
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJFLB-8M8

and here the infos abt Domenico:

Nome: Dominic Tornicaso
[Domenico Tornincasa]
Sesso: Male (Maschio)
Razza: White (Europoide)
Data nascita: 17 apr 1871
Luogo di nascita: Naples, Italy (Italia)
Padre:
Nichola Tornicaso
Madre:
Pauline Arena
SSN: 185123968
Note: Sep 1940: Name listed as DOMINIC TORNICASO

so by another record, seeming that the same Domenico Tornincasa who was married to Maria Pascalucci, married or just joined to a Rose

and here on 1940 census:
Name Dominic Tornicaso
Sex Male
Age 70
Event Date 1940
Event Place Ward 3, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh City, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States
Marital Status Widowed
Race White

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AKQ6N-3XG
he died on 1946..
but if I don't understood your post sorry abt these infos...
