Serafina Masucci - death record

Post by bnic84 »

Could you please provide the translation for this 1855 death record? The image is on page 34. I believe that Serafina is the wife of Elia Tedesco and the mother of Gerardo Tedesco.

Death No 27: Serafina Masucci

Registered in Giffoni Valle Piana on 25 December 1855

It was reported that on 24 December 1855, 1 pm, Serafina Masucci died in her own house. She was 86 yo, a bracciale (day labourer), living in Sovvieco, the daughter of the deceased Domenico (Masucci), a bracciale, who had lived in Serino, and of the deceased Emilia Scauro, who had also lived in Serino. (idem – ditto, the same)

Interesting. So there was no mention of her deceased spouse, Elia Tedesco, or her son, Gerardo Tedesco, who was still living at the time?

Correct. Children generally aren't mentioned, although I have seen them mentioned in some towns. Have you seen this as the norm in Giffoni Valle Piana? I also wondered that there was no mention of her husband or marriage status. Maybe the declarants were uncertain of this detail? Are you certain you have the correct people? A good way of checking is to find their marriage document listing parents' names, if they are are online. Parents listed on marriage record should tally with parents listed on death record.
