Record #90 dated 01 October 1892.
Birth date is 14 June ''prossimo scorso" instead of 'corrent' ....does this mean the birth happened in 1893...?

My understanding is that the birth took place on June 14, 1892 but that there was a delay in the father reporting the birth (handwritten section at bottom of the record). So, there was a court sentence handed down on Sept 9th of that year in Lucera, which authorized the delay in reporting. Then on Oct 1, 1892, the infant's father appeared at the town hall of Casalvecchio with a copy of this sentence, and the town official there, in turn, placed the copy in the allegati of his registers. I'm not a native Italia speaker, so I can't explain the use of a phrase which is obviously self-contradicting, since "prossimo" means "next" and "scorso" means "last."
Since the July 1892 marriage record makes no mention of the civil marriage recognizing the child as their legitimate son, I’m guessing that the delay in the father reporting the birth was a way of the parents not acknowledging to the community that the child had been born out of wedlock. I would think that, if they had previously had a church marriage, there would have been a formal recognition of the child as their “legitimate” son in the civil marriage record.

The google translator was having spasms with that onesince "prossimo" means "next" and "scorso" means "last."
It didn't make sense that an 1893 birth would be forced into the 1892 records. Once again, I appreciate the insights greatly!

Più esattamente: "prossimo" significa il più vicino, "scorso" significa passato. Cioè si tratta del giorno 14 dell'ultimo Giugno. Attualmente si direbbe "il 14 Giugno ultimo scorso".

Grazie, G, but we're still talking about the birth having taken place on June 14, of 1892, correct?mmogno wrote: 24 Apr 2023, 20:05@Eruditaerudita74 wrote: 24 Apr 2023, 16:04 Nick

Sì. Si tratta del 14 di quel mese di Giugno, fra quelli che precedono l'Ottobre 1892, che gli è più vicino. Cioè il Giugno 1892.
