I wish I knew what happened to Martin, he was my Great Grandmother’s younger brother. The incident took place only 10 minutes from where I live!

I also discovered that she and my great grandfather announced my Grandparent’s engagement in the very same issue of that newspaper!

Christine, which Italian newspaper is this article from? I am researching in the New Haven area as well. Availability of the many Italian newspapers seems spotty at best. Thanks!

I often think about that. So many of my Italian ancestors went to USA as youngsters and had to fight their own only a matter of years later. Or formed bonds with locals which then broke. My dad often talks about this (sorry off topic)

Yes, I often think about this too. Confusing painful times for so many. A lot of our male Italian immigrants were interned. They were sent to an island which I have visited twice now. It is a beautiful place. The internment camp is still there, now used for other purposes, of course, but there is a little building with photos of some of the internees, who of course have now passed, but I do remember them as seniors in our community.
