Death Record Antonietta Teofilo Translation
Can someone please complete the following death record translation for Antonietta Teofilo Conte, 33 yo, native of Conversano, Bari, a casalinga (housewife), daughter of married couple Vito Pietro Teofilo and Maria Nardomarino, who was married to Stefano Conte.
I am posting this for someone else. I’ve read through it but there are some words I’m finding hard to decipher, and I don’t want to miss anything important. I can see that she died from tuberculosis polmonone (pulmonary tuberculosis) and understand that this is while she was onboard a ship which had sailed from New York, leaving on 14 January 1931, bound for Gibilterra (Gibraltar).
It would take me ages to complete the translation and do it justice, and I’m snowed-under at the moment, so please help

Thanks so much, Angela

The original record is from the ship "Augustus".
You have translated all the main info, with the exception of the witnesses.
Do you need a word-by-word translation?

Thank you, Pippo. Yes, word-by-word would be helpful. Was the date of death, 21 January 1931 8.20 pm? (This seems odd because it is the same time that the record was written.)PippoM wrote: 30 Jun 2023, 10:04 The original record is from the ship "Augustus".

The entry into the register in Conversano is dated 23 February 1831. The transcribed record from the ship as PippoAngelaGrace56 wrote: 30 Jun 2023, 11:32Thank you, Pippo. Angelaindicated, is dated 21 January 1831, which was probably written at the time of death.

Absolutely!!! That is exactly how I read the record. It just seemed like a lot to write at the time of death when I translated the record. Are you or anyone else able to locate the ship manifest. The family member requesting the translation has a few question marks about what they were told about the journey. Also it was understood that the body was buried at sea which makes sense but I can't read anything pertaining to this. Can anyone else.
Any further insight pertaining to the record would be helpful.

You are the absolute best, G. Thank you so much. I looked for this when the link to the death record was first sent to me but couldn't locate it. Sometimes when I'm on the antenati site the pages skip so maybe that's what happened. Anyways, I'll take a closer look and hopefully translate it. I've received a message from the family who are very happy with what has been found as well.
Edit to Add: polmonare - that looks better. Thanks for the correction as well.
Bless you.

Re: Death Record Antonietta Teofilo Translation
I hope this reply goes through. I am the granddaughter of Antonietta. Thanks to those of you who have helped me solve this mystery! Angela has been so gracious with her time and patience, and I thank her for all her help.
If anyone has any ideas about how to find this ship manifest, I am most grateful for the information. If the Augustus was traveling TO Italy, instead of to New York, as we believed, that explains why I haven't found it. I believe my father Robert Conti, who was born in 1926, was on the journey with her, so the manifest would help me to prove that. Also, any insight into Burials at Sea is helpful. I have tried Global Find a Grave: Burials at Sea on Ancestry, but have had no luck.
Thank you!

Re: Death Record Antonietta Teofilo Translation
My understanding is that Antoniette (aka Antonia) Teofilo first immigrated to the US in 1923 with her brother Angelo. I’ve had some time today to search for the 1931 Passenger Record but with limited access to records have not been able to locate. (I was hoping to get to the library but ran out of time.) I did however locate the following immigration record. It seems that she had returned home to Italia at some stage with her little boy, Roberto? The following is the return trip to the US which took place in October 1930 three months before her leaving the US again to visit Italia onboard the ship Augustus on which she died on 21 Jan 1931.
1930 Immigration record for Antonia (aka Antoniette) Conte Teofilo, 33 y, b.1897, Italia, aboard M N Dulcania, with son Roberto D P Conte, 4 yo, b. 1926, her Health, mental, physical condition reported as “good”
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3A24N9-RCX
her relative in Italia was was reported as mother Maria Teofilo, living Conversano, Antonia was heading to Akron to reunite with husband Stefano Conte, 309 Siess Street, Akron (length of stay permanent)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 7&cc=19238
I understand that son Roberto, once again travelled with her onboard the Augustus. Finding the 1931 Manifest would help confirm this info for the family. (It’s a bit of a mystery as to what happened to to this little boy onboard after his mother died. It would have been incredibly traumatic for him.)
Thanks for any further help.

Hai provato a cercare a Gibilterra, se per caso c'è la sepoltura lì?
Qui l'atto di nascita di Antonia Teofilo

Thank you for the birth record. The family do have this already but it's good to see a clearer copy.
No I haven't researched in Gibraltar itself for a burial, only quickly now, but couldn't find anything. I could pop into the library at some point and search their institutional subscriptions.
I wonder how close the ship would have been to Gibraltar, when Antonietta died? When I typed in the coordinates, google map came up with places, (on land not sea), in Italia, that were close to the Swiss border, so maybe the coordinates were written down wrong. (Or more likely, this type of search isn't my gifting, and I'm totally out of my depth

Thank you, G.
