Baptism and birth date: Feb 20, 1790.
Parents: Giuseppe Gervasi and Giuseppa Tuccitto, spouses.
Church: S. Pietro Apostolo in Vincoli, in Cassaro.

I'm puzzled by this other record which appears in the same marriage allegati.

The second Certificate here dated 10 February 1790 I'm understanding to be a Death Certificate for Saverio Gervasi. This would be your Saverio's paternal grandfather. It looks like he was the son of the deceased Filippi (Philip)? Giacobbe (Jacob)? not sure and Giuseppa Masuzzo. Great record. Will take you back a bit.

The document is the Saverio Gervasi's (76 yo) death record.
Death date: Feb 10, 1790.
Parents: the late Filippo Giacomo and Giuseppa Masuzzo Ferula(?).
Church: S. Pietro Apostolo in Vincoli, in Cassaro.

If I understand correctly: The male Gervasi line was (in order): Filippo, Saverio (d.1790), Giuseppe (d.1800), and Saverio (b.1790). The grandson Saverio was born 10 days after his grandfather Saverio died.

Based on other records, the line continues with Paolo/Salvatore (b.1824) and Sebastiano (b.1844). Filippo was likely born in the late 1600s. He would be nine generations back from me. All from Siracusa Province in Sicily (Cassaro, Solarino, and Priolo Gargallo). That's the longest line I have on my Sicilian side.

Do any of the records indicate the name of the wife of the Saverio Gervasi who died in 1790? She also would have been the mother of the Giuseppe Gervasi who married Giuseppa Tuccitto and was the father of the Saverio Gervasi born in 1790.

I believe this is the death record for Giuseppe, also from the same marital allegati.

Yes, this is the link to the death record of Giuseppe Gervasi, husband of Giuseppa Tuccitto/Torcitto. I don't see his parents names listed there, and on looking through the other records in the package I don't see evidence of his mother's name. My Latin is minus basic though, as you've probably guessed.

Re Giuseppa Masuzzo's surname I am reading Giuseppa Masuzzo Ferale. It must have been a double name. The surname Ferale still exists in Sicilia today.

Great job finding these allegati.

Just to add to my previous post: The only thing is, I don't understand why it says Terry Cassari after Giuseppe Gervasi? Anyways, I'm sure mmogno will be able to make sense of my nonsense. I have to get to a concert.

I think it means land of Cassaro, the town in Siracusa Province.

The interesting thing is that the marriage allegati is for the groom's second marriage. My blood relationship derives from the groom's first marriage.

I've found valuable information in other marriage allegati before, but this package ranks as one of the better ones.

Regarding Giuseppa Masuzzo, I wonder if "ferale" means deceased, as in "fatal"?

Ferale is also funeral or sad.

On the other hand, it looks like the more common term "quondam" or a variant is used for the deceased father.

So, maybe it is a double name afterall.

I am trying to track down 4 brothers from Oggebbio, Piedmont

Anselmo Canetta 1854
Egidio Canetta 1855 (moved to London about 1882) - he is my wife's great grandfather
Solperini/Solferini Canetta born 1858
Ignazio Canetta born 1867

We have been to Oggebbio and been to the cemetery but only found a gravestone for an Anselmo but there were no dates.

Could you suggest where I may be able to look for records?
