Note translation

Post by warriorrabbit »

Recently found a bunch of documents buried in a box in a closet... many with Giuseppe Lamberti Geraci letterhead. Several letters, but I'll start with something small: my great grandmother earning some sort of award in school in 1890? It's on really thick paper. And a small double-sided card.

And I don't need a translation of this as it is fairly self explanatory, but my great grandfather got a gun permit in Messina in 1899. Why? Who knows. Although there is a rumor his father, who was a bank president, ran off with all the money. Did he? I don't know. But if so, maybe my great grandfather needed it for protection from pissed off investors.

Hello? Is it a bad time to ask? August vacation, I guess.

Hi, let's start with the top one...

Messina, 31 luglio 1907.
Carissimi Angelina e Lorenzo,
Non ci proveremo in questi momenti
che i vostri cuori trovansi tra-
vagliati da tanto inaspettato
dolore di muovere il pensiero
per dirvi parole di conforto.
L'Ente Supremo volle ancora una
volta riprovarvi a tanto dolore, che
solo il tempo può farvi in parte
lenire: vi sia solo di conforto di
averlo rivisto e di averlo assistito
negli ultimi istanti di sua esistenza.
Povero il mio buono amico!
Chi mai poteva farci credere
a una morte così repentina?
Io e tutti abbiamo pianto al tri-
ste ferale annunzio!!
Che fare?
Vi sia di conforto e cara la sua
memoria: Egli fu Padre buono,
Cittadino esemplare, ed affezionato agli
amici. Onesto, e scrupoloso!!!
Gradite, con i vostri angioletti e
per parte di tutti, amplessi e baci cari.
Matilde, Giuseppe Lamberti e figli
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi
