Angelo

Post by darkerhorse »

My understanding is that "Angelo" is pronounced "ahngelo" in Italian.

I seem to remember some of the old timers in my Sicilian family saying what sounded to me like "iangelo" or "yahngelo".

Have you ever heard that pronunciation, or is it unique to my family (or perhaps my recollection is in error)?

I'm waiting in yahnticipation of replies.

"My" Angelo came from the north of Italy and he always pronounced it "ahngelo" as you said. I never knew him personally but what I've learned, he was saying his name like this. Maybe it's the south accent ?
