Dated 19 September 1873 in Menfi
Appearing before the official was Caterina Tortorici, daughter of Michele, age 23, Receiver of the abandoned, who presented a male child who she declared on 19 September at 5 AM was at the wheel in Via Popolo #611, parents unknown.
The child was given the name Calogero and the surname Messineo

Yes, he was a foundling, and, according to the record, he was given name by Caterina Tortorici, the foundling receiver.
