Mauro/Strena Family in Corleone

Post by yandle »

Seeking information on Ciro Mauro and Anna Strena and their children who may have been born in Corleone.

Salvatore born 1864
Lorenza born 1871
Francesco born 1872
Vincenza born 1878

I have located some records from the Catholic Diocese once the children immigrated to Louisiana, but have not been able to locate Ciro and Anna’s marriage or other records or the children’s birth records from Italy.

Thanks

Anna Strena may also have had a sister named Ledonna.

I'm 99.9% sure his name was Paolo.

Just thinking about this, I'm wondering whether Anna's surname might be Streva, which is a name that appears in the town, and not Strena?

I’ve located Anna’s original birth record. The father is clearly Paolo and I’m certain the surname is Streva and not Strena: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 94/LqlrRDm It’s page 102 of 289. She was born in Corleone on 18 August 1939. Her father was Paolo Streva, 40 yo. Her mother Vincenza Salp... was 26.

I don't think the mother's name was Salpietro. I'll just check some other records.

Edit to Add: I've searched through some indices, none of which were that clear, but when I checked the actual birth records the surname might possibly be Salpetra? Finding the marriage record of the parents would hopefully help to confirm Anna's mother's surname.

Nell'atto di morte di Paolo Streva nei processetti è scritto che era sposo di Vincenza Salpietro, mi pare molto chiaro.

Oh yes, that is very clear. Salpietro it is :)

Here is the original 1840 death record in case our poster yandle is interested: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 33/LyGa3VK

(As I was going through the records yesterday I had noticed that both Salpetro/a and Salpietro/a seemed to exist, so something to be aware of.)

eg.
Salpetra No 255: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 67/LeqQYzW

salpetra : https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 67/Lmy8XDa

Paolo's parents were Settimo and Anna (no surname given), both deceased. Children not listed.
