Hi everyone,
I was curious as to what reasons my 3rd great grandparents (Salvatore Mazzuca and Vittoria Saraco) might have named three of their children Rocco. The first was Rocco Mazzuca, their sixth child, born in Badolato on Christmas 1853. He later died a little over five months later in the beginning of June 1854. They named their next child Rocco Pasquale Mazzuca who was born 28 September 1855. I assume he received his first name because it was common for Italians to name their children after siblings who predeceased them (not sure why they added Pasquale though). He lived into adulthood and had children of his own. After at least one sister (Anna Maria) born in 1859, they had my 2nd great grandfather, also named just Rocco Mazzuca. He was born somewhere between 1860-1865 (most likely 1861) but I do not have his birth record as these years are not uploaded to and missing from the Italian portale antenati website.
I am confused as to why they would name him Rocco Mazzuca when an already living brother was named Rocco Pasquale. None of his grandparents were named Rocco so I am trying to figure out the significance of this name. If anyone has any possibilities as to why they named him Rocco, please let me know!
Thanks!
Why did my ancestors name three of their children Rocco?

Re: Why did my ancestors name three of their children Rocco?
Many female children have the first name Maria followed by another name they often use daily or in conjunction with Maria. Mariantonia, Maria Rosa ecc. It was probably the same for this family.
the first Rocco died, second one is Rocco Pasquale (called Pasquale or Roccopasquale daily), 3rd one is just Rocco (called Rocco daily)
If there is no comma between Rocco and Pasquale, it is ONE name not two. So perfectly acceptable to name another son just Rocco.
