Issue with the site of New York City Municipal Archives

Post by PippoM »

Hi all,
I wonder if there a way to solve this issue.
When you browse images on the site, you get a result like this:

https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc ... unty=kings

The page displays 50 records. You can view only the first 100 pages, i.e. 5000 records on the whole.
In this case, there are more than 30,000 results, and I want to see one of the following records (I know an approximate date, but not more).
The suggestion of the site is "Use filters to find relevant records", but I can't find more filters than those I already used.
Maybe I'm missing something?

Pippo :D

At the top of the page you posted, next to "Browse All," you will find a "Search" button. Click on that button and when you scroll down you will see the option for searching by name, with search tips listed below that.

You may already know that not all records are available. Here is a chart showing available digitized NYC records.

Good luck!

I live in NYC and as others have mentioned, not all of the vast records of the Municipal Archives have been included in this relatively new database.
Additionally, there are scanning errors.

Just stay with it, little by little, you might find what you need.
The browsing option is an excellent suggestion from the previous replies.
Many of our ancestors could not read or write, so that, whomever was completing the records for them used phonetics as to their best guess.
