Please help translate birth record

Post by Jmar8989 »

Hi I am new here, I was able to track down a birth record for my great grandfather. I have been attempting to translate it, but I am having trouble deciphering some names. I have his naturalization records and a lot matches up. I am confused as to why it says the sex is female. His name is Angelo. Also his mother is the one who declared him. Is this common? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

#1196
Angelo Marino
Illegittimo
Dated 6 August 1893 - birth on 1 August 1893
Rosa Marino, 20, "casalinga" residing in Marsala, presented a child (I believe the "feminile" is an error by the clerk) that she declared was born from her union with an unmarried man, not a relative, who does not wish to be named. The child was given the name ANGELO.
Rosa signed the record with the official. The witnesses to the record were illiterate.
