Comune di Rosso vs. Davagna??

Post by Jpgriffin1994 »

Greetings,

I'm just starting to research my Italian ancestry and know little about how Comune's function within a city. I believe i found my GGF's birth record in "Comune di Rosso" records from 1873 but they were available under the Davagna folders. In his US records everything he has says Genova or Genoa, is that essentially a province or county with many small towns/cities within its border?

Could someone please help me understand if they are the same places or is Comune di Rosso a smaller section of Davagna?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Grazie mille,

Joe

This may help...

According to the records you posted, Giovanni was born in Moranego.

The village of Moranego belongs to the municipality of Davagna, in the province of Genova, region Liguria

To the municipality of Davagna also belong the localities of Calvari (4,49 km), Capenardo (1,97 km), Case sparse (-- km), Cavassolo (6,05 km), Cavassolo Superiore (0,44 km), Dercogna (4,75 km), Maggiolo (5,04 km), Mareggia (4,82 km), Marsiglia (2,41 km), Meco (3,65 km), Paravagna (1,60 km), Paste (1,80 km), Paste - Prelo (1,66 km), Pian Carnese (1,71 km), Piane di Rosso (2,64 km), Prelo (1,99 km), Rivale (4,95 km), Rosso (2,72 km), Scoffera (3,78 km), Sella (1,59 km), Serrato (1,04 km), Sottana (1,15 km), Sottocolle (3,25 km), Valle (4,68 km), Villamezzana (1,14 km).

The number in parentheses following each village name indicate the distance between the same village and the municipality of Davagna.

The village of Rosso is 2,72 kilometers far from the same town of Davagna to whom it belongs.

When you look at the civil records they are held at the local level. Some towns hold the records of their villages/hamlets also called frazione.

Look at the legend in the right column at this site.
