Translating Birth Record of Guccini
Translating Birth Record of Guccini
Hello could someone help with the translation of these two birth records for older siblings of my grandmother in Gaggio Montano (it looks like sometimes they are just writing Gaggio). I haven't had any luck finding her birth record even though the years are present based on the age on the death record. Parents were Andrea Guccini and Maria Picchioni.
Domenico Luigi (or vice versa) Guccini 1808 top of page https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 67/04Vj2WR
Givoanna Guccini - 1810 #26 https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 91/LoNEmpR
Reference this was the translation of my grandmother's death record:
Registered 23 June 1890, Gaggio Montano
Death No 28: Anna Guccini
Reporting the death were Andrea Guidotti, 39 yo, possidente (land owner), and Carlo Simoni, 31 yo, impiegato (clerk), both living in Gaggio. They reported that at 2.30 pm, on 21 June 1890, in the house in Gaggio, No 246, Anna Guccini, 76 yo, massaia (domestic) died. She was born and residing in Gaggio, the daughter of the deceased Andrea Guccini, who had been a colono (tenant farmer), and of the deceased Maria Picchioni, a domestic, who had both lived in Gaggio when living. Anna Guccini was the widow of Battista Guidotti.
Thanks!

Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
Here’s the first one, Diego
Dated July 12, 1808
Andrea Guccini, age 30, a colono, tenant farmer, and the official of the civil state, was himself present speaking about the birth of his own son, Luigi Domenico. The birth took place on the 10th at 8 P.M. and the male infant was born to him and Maria Pichioni, age 33, a colona, a tenant farmer. Andrea Guccini, the notifier of the birth, was illiterate, as was Luigi Pola, one of the two witnesses. The other witness, Giovanni Batista Vivarelli, was not illiterate and signed by his own hand. So his signature is actually his own.

Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
The birth of Giovanna Guccini
Dated Sept 10,1810; she was also born on the 10th -the time of the birth was 6 a.m.
Andrea Guccini, the official of the civil state, and the baby’s father, was now age 33, still a colono, tenant farmer, as was Maria. The baby was born to him and Maria Picchioni, now age 36. Now her surname is written with two c’s. He was still illiterate as were the two witnesses. Luigi Pola, age 54, was again one of the witnesses. I can’t make out his profession. The other one, Francesco (not sure of his surname) was also age 54 and a colono/tenant farmer.

Thank you very much Erudita!
It's almost like the 1806 to 1810 is a combination of towns for Gaggio which includes her two older siblings, then the 1811-1814 doesn't seem to have the family anymore almost like the other town isn't in those records. Well at least not the one I want

Have you tried contacting the town to inquire about Anna’s birth record? Her age at death, of course, may not be accurate, even though one of the declarants may have been her son or a relative. You can try emailing the town.

Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
BTW, what you’re seeing in the 1811-1814 records are actually records of the frazioni or hamlets of the town of Gaggio Montano. I’m assuming you went through all of them page by page to be sure Anna’s birth record isn’t there.
Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
Unfortunately, Gaggio has not responded to any email I've sent to them over a couple years (since I started posting here essentially) In all the other towns I have ever inquired about my family it may take a long time, but eventually something.
I had only really used the multi-year index and most years had their own index to cross reference. Without that especially with the handwriting its way above my Italian reading level of looking for key words...lol. The 1812 year for instance is super well written, but I see the word Africo a lot at the top, which is a different hamlet, so that was why I was wondering if it was missing the hamlet she was from. In the 1806-1810 index it clarifies if they are from Africo or Gaggio. Here's an example of the 1812 record that is listed: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 34/w9ZKAbW
After over a year, I did receive this document just today which is the marriage of Anna (maybe I'm seeing Maria Anna) to my grandfather Giov. Battista Guidotti. I'm not sure if any ages are listed that may help to confirm her year of birth yet.
Thank you,
D.

Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
There are no ages in this document. Did you get it from the groom’s parish or from Anna’s parish? (Maria Anna in the record). I don’t know if the bride’s parish of S. Michele would have a copy of her baptism record. You could try emailing the parish with an approximate year of 1814 based on her age of 76 in 1890.

Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
Thank you for the help! I have emailed the parish to see if they could check their archives for her baptism. I do believe it came from that parish, (I tried a service) as I was running into dead ends trying to work with the diocese without an "onsite" qualified person. At the time I made the request, I was trying to get the name of Battista's mother as it was blank on his death record, thinking now I should have asked for her baptism as well.
Thanks again I will let you know if I hear anything back.

I think that’s the best route you can take at this point. It’s also possible that, if her age at death is inaccurate, she could have been born in 1816 or later. Unfortunately, I don’t see online records between 1816 and 1866 for Gaggio.

Re: Translating Birth Record of Guccini
Euridta that emailed worked wonderfully, I received the digital document today. I offered to make an electronic donation to the church in return.
I am seeing the parents names, and a birth date of March 7, 1814? I saw a couple other names I was guessing god parents perhaps?
Thanks!

I can’t believe that the email worked and you received the record so quickly. I’m really happy for you.
The month is May and not March (Maii in Latin). Anna’s godmother was Lucia Poli, the wife of Antonio Costa. Anna was born and baptized on the 7th. The year does look like 1814 to me.

Thanks again Erudita.
The church has been wonderful in responding, I was finally able to get my great great grandfather's (Anna's son) actual baptism. This was a different thread I had last year as the baptism copies used in his two marriage had reversed his names, leaving us wondering what was his real name was (so now mystery solved).

So happy to hear this, D. I just chanced upon the site with that email address, so I really had no idea you’d have luck with it. Thanks so much for taking the time to update me.
