In 1868, the groom to be, Giuseppe Benanti, son of Mario Benanti and Caterina Giuffrida, who had been born on Nov 9, 1847 in Ogliastro (district),
Misilmeri, was declared unfit for military duty due to an issue with his left eye (I can’t decipher the word for the condition). The declaration of his unfitness to serve was made by the council di leva (military draft council).

Hi Erudita, I'm reading something coma. It's possibly glaucoma but that's not what I'm reading. I can't think of any other eye disease ending in "coma".erudita74 wrote: 22 Mar 2024, 23:39 #515

I see the same ending, Angela, but I’m having trouble with the beginning of the word. I don’t know Italian words for eye diseases. There’s an eye disease tracoma (in Italian) but it’s not that

A lot of them would be very similar to English.erudita74 wrote: 23 Mar 2024, 00:05 I see the same ending, Angela, but I’m having trouble with the beginning of the word. I don’t know Italian words for eye diseases.
Are you having issues with the revamped Family Search. I can't work out how to get a full view of the record. I also can't download the full record. I only get the small window of the record that I'm looking at. Are you finding the same thing? Maybe it is all still being refined.

It's "leucoma" in English it is Leukoma. It affects the cornea and can cause visual impairment.

Great. I was looking at “le” but with an “n” and not a “u” after it but then got sidetracked. Multi-tasking, as usual.AngelaGrace56 wrote: 23 Mar 2024, 00:36 It's "leucoma" in English it is Leukoma. It affects the cornea and can cause visual impairment.
