Assistance with Marriage Translation

Post by Road2Gandolfo »

I am attempting to translate the marriage record below for Rosa Gandolfo and Pietro Caito. Some of the script is difficult to read and I believe I have enough information to understand the document. I am questioning the name of the official. I'm reading the name as "Copio Meo Giuffre'. I'm translating it as 'copy' or 'copia' but am unsure if it is part of the officials name. I also just want to make sure it's not an official title I am unfamiliar with. Thank you

In the year one thousand nine hundred and seven, on the twenty-sixth day of December at eleven a.m., in the Communal House of Marsala, open to the public.

Before me Copio Meo Guiffre, approved with deed, Civil Status Officer, dressed in official form, personally appeared:

I think he was a Councillor standing in briefly for the Mayor???

Thank you so much for looking into this. I am not used to seeing the letter 's' with a tail if you will. I'm going to have to review the marriage document again to look for that. I also see on the marriage pubblication that an 'Assesore da Sindaco" was the official. Another item to add to my notes! Thank you again

You might find the following Italian handwriting samples helpful: https://script.byu.edu/italian-handwrit ... bet-charts

Everyone's handwriting is quite unique anyway so you can only use the chart as a guide as to how different letters may have been formed.
