Translation help

Post by RobininStl »

Can I get some help translating the highlighted areas of the attached marriage record. Specifically, I'm looking for what it says about where the husband (Vincenzo) is from, as well as the bride's (Lauria) mother's name and Lauria's surname. I think the surname is Senderi, based on the index but hoping to confirm. I've attached the index for the record as well. Their entry is on the lefthand side about halfway down, 4/21/1624. The record is from Monreale, Palermo, Sicily, Italy.

Here's the actual record. It didn't attach to my original post.

Robin
It appears that Vincenzo was from the town of Aidone in Enna Province but was a citizen of Monreale at the time of the marriage. In Sicilian, Aidone starts with the letter D -Daduni in siciliano)

The bride's surname I believe is Scuderi. Her mother's first name could be a form of Viola, but I can't tell what the ending is.

Thank you! I was just coming back to add I think that the bride's surname is Scuderi after doing further research for her siblings and parents' marriage records. Based on those records, I believe that her mom's name is Violante.

Thanks for the clarification on Vincenzo's city and the wikipedia link on the town.

Happy to help, Robin. I actually hadn’t seen the first name Violante in many years and didn’t realize that’s what it could be it. Glad you saw the name in other records.

Violante is an ancient name that is coming back.
There's an actress whose name is Violante Placido, who is the daughter of the famous actor Michele, who interpreted one of the earliest Italian TV series about mafia ("La Piovra")
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi
