Appearing before the official was Francesco Arduini, age 31, peasant farmer , residing Virgilio Cerese, to declare that at 6:10 pm on the 8th of the current month, at the house in Cerese Corte Streggia #62, to Itala Corradini, his legitimate wife, residing with him, was born a male child who was presented to the official and to whom was given the name Severino.

I was really happy with the information you helped me to discover, but a mystery has come to my attention.

1) Francesco married Smeralda Corradini on March 30, 1891, in San Giorgio di Mantova.
2) They had a daughter named Amelia in 1892.
3) They had a son named Giovanni on April 19, 1894, in Porto Mantovano.

Now, you tell me that Francesco had a son named Severino on November 8, 1895, in Vigilio, but the mother is Itala Corradini.

I wonder if Smeralda died and Francesco married her sister or perhaps a cousin.


I'd be enormously grateful if you could help me.

It could be something as simple as the clerk misunderstanding the mother's given name.
But I will check.

Her full name is Smeralda Itala Corradini - so it is the same person.

Also if helpful, if your looking to go further back for Cerese / Virgilio, it had originally belonged to the municipality under the name of Quattroville. Made up of four areas Cerese, Pietole, Bellaguarda and Parenza. The municipality later became known as Virgilio and is now known as Borgo-Virgilio (Cerese is a hamlet or Frazioni). My grandfather was born in Cerese as well.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share some exciting progress in my family history research, thanks to the incredible help I received here. I've traced my ancestry back to the 18th century!

I recently came across the birth certificate of my ancestor, Rosa Arduini, who was born on April 18, 1809, in Gazzuolo, Mantova, Lombardia, Italy. This document includes valuable information about her parents, Luigi Arduini and his wife Teresa.

I am particularly interested in learning more about Luigi Arduini. According to my findings, I believe he was born in 1775. I would be grateful if anyone could help me confirm his birth details and place of birth to continue my journey further back in time.

Is it possible to find his birth certificate from Nocegrossa (a hamlet of Gazzuolo) for the years 1774 or 1775 online?

Anything in that time is normally not online, and requires in most cases what I have seen access to the specific Parish that holds the record you are after. At times, the dioceses can also sometimes be protective of engaging with the parishes with a decline of clergy, and many times a single priest is covering a couple different parishes. The church isn't required to make documents accessible from what one diocese told me. I have had success if you are able to locate the church email, and offer to make an electronic donation (I've used Xoom a paypal service). Be prepared to wait (sometimes months) before you get a response. This website can be helpful in finding parish emails: https://orarimesse.it/ (the only issue is for some reason parishes under the Mantova diocese aren't listed). If its a record you really wanted, I have had to use a service in Italy to help retrieve the record.

A couple more things that I did not know at the start of this adventure
1806-1814 are online because Napoleon required civil documentation and the archives have published it. The 1814-1861 (unification period) is usually not online at least in Northern Italy, and again have to rely on the church / diocese to fill the gaps. You will start to see records online again usually 1861 time period maybe a bit later depending on the area if the archives scans are complete as Italy became a nation.
