where to go next
Hi all, On all of my wife's Grandfather's documentation, ship manifest, draft registration, naturalization, etc, he always claimed he was from Sperlonga, Latina. We have his birthday and both of his parents names as well. We had a birth certificate request through a gentleman in Italy and just got the official result back and was informed that they checked the years 1885-1890 and found negative results. I have tried to find his parents wedding, deaths as well but Antenati has no records between 1865 and 1930 so we are at a dead end. We had high hopes that this would go very smoothly because of so much supporting evidence but don't know where to go next. Thanks for any help. Bill C
Re: where to go next
Hi, you could try contacting the Archivio di Stato di Latina and request his military documents (ruolo matricolare/liste di leva) to find his birth location.
On requesting the ruolo matricolare you don’t need to add his Comune of residence so maybe try this first.
Here’s the link for a request by email.
You need to download the form.
Click on “modulistica” on the left and choose “Richiesta di ricerca per corrispondenza - WORD - PDF”

Re: where to go next
Thank you for your reply, I will try that right away. He was 18 when he arrived here. would they have a record of him being that young? Thank you. Bill
Re: where to go next
Then probably not on the ruoli matricolari.
Try the liste di leva.
The “ufficio di leva” annually prepares the lists by year of birth of the members, which includes Italian male citizens who turn 17 years of age from 1 January to 31 December of the current year.
If you wish to share some of your documentation on this forum we could try to help you in other ways if at all possible.
