Naples Church Records & Genealogist recommendations

Post by ItalyResearcher »

Hello Forum Members,

We are looking for some reliable Genealogist recommendations to search Naples Church records for us. (We will also need a recommendation for the Basilicata region.) We’ve been successful in researching online records through Antenati for various comunes over the years, but just recently uncovered a branch that shows ties to Naples.

In addition, through an online search of the Archivio Storico Diocesano di Napoli, we found an ancestor’s 1808 marriage index. Because it is prior to the Antenati records and this is only an index, it does not show the parents of the bride and groom so we are unable to move back the line. (It does provide a series of letters/numbers that appears to be a locator for the actual record.) How do we know which parish in Naples this index is from in order to even attempt to contact the priests to obtain the record attached to the index? (Naples research seems a bit more complex than the smaller comunes we have researched over the years.)

Are there other online sites you can recommend for searching Church records for the Campania and Basilicata regions? Most of the comunes we need are not available on the FamilySearch website.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or assistance.
