Looking for info on my great-grandfather

Post by julierbarkin »

Hello. I am looking for information about my great-grandfather coming over to America on the Canopic, departing Naples on December 16, 1908 and arriving in Boston on December 28, 1908. His name is Giovanni Delle Bondenere (Boudouere?), born in Naples in 1883 (14 Mar or 19 Mar). I can't find much about his parents. His father might be Dominic and his mother might be Caroline (Mamal/Manuel). His ship manifest says he was living in Ascoli Satriano with an aunt named Nunzia Giardano before he departed. Thanks for any help. Julie

Re: Looking for info on my great-grandfather - help with translation

Post by julierbarkin »

Thanks to User Tessa78, I now have better info than I did in my original post. The correct spelling for my great-grandfather is Giovanni dalle Bandenere, and I learned he was an abandoned baby in Ascoli Satriano.

Is anyone able to translate the passage in Entry 2 (bottom left) of the record linked below. I tried Google Translate, but it didn't work very well.

Thanks so much!

Maybe more details can be provided.
This is what I translated for the poster - so as not to duplicate efforts... :-)
I believe this is the birth act of Giovanni.
The correct spelling is Giovanni dalle Bandenere...
He was a abandoned child.

#2 (in parte II) of the births in 1883 in Ascoli Satriano
On 20 March 1883, before the official in the town hall in Ascoli, appeared Antonia Saroni (sp?), 36, midwife who declared that today she found at the wheel of the abandoned (Ruota dei Proietti) a child with a few pannolini (diapers), who she observed was alive , a male, and about 1 day old. She presented the child to the official and the official gave the child the name Giovanni and the surname dalle Bandenere.
The child was consigned to Carolina Memoli, wife of Domenico D'Agressa(sp?) for care and nourishment.
