Hello!
I have been searching for quite some time for my family members in Lucca (I believe specifically Pescaglia?). I am Elkins but my mother is Giannini and my Grandfather Alfredo Francesco Raphaelo Giannini, with Alfred Dante Giannini before him, and Vincenzo Giannini before him. Vincenzo was born 1869 and died in 1905 in San Francisco California, shot twice in the back by Alfred Angeli who would go on to marry Assunta Simi/Giannini/Angeli -- who was both Vincenzo's wife and the reason for the debacle between Angeli and Giannini. Anyway, I know that Assunta Simi and Vincenzo Giannini were married in 1891 (or 1890) (I thought in Lucca) before setting coming to the United States in 1892 (there is debate as to how/when exactly they arrived and if they were together.
My family has long talked about our connection to A.P Giannini (founder of Bank of America-formerly Bank of Italy) and supposedly my Grandpa had received a fairly extensive amount of financial assets because of it. I haven't been able to prove the slightest connection however. If a connection can be discovered between the two however I would be all the more grateful.
I would be EXCEPTIONALLY grateful for any and all info into these people. I understand Giannini isn't exactly the most unique name around those parts but hopefully I provided enough detail to make the search dooable. Parents names/ birthdays etc. for any one of the three of them would be incredible but especially info on Vincenzo's pre- United States life would be beyond appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
- Matt

Re: Vincenzo Giannini born 1869 murdered 1905. Pescaglia(?) Lucca Toscana Italia
Hello Matt,
While searching the Lucca births and marriages, I have come up with several Maria Assunta Simi births ... several in 1869. But when I searched Assunta Simi Angeli in the USA, I located the "Find a Grave" which indicates Assunta was born in 1874. I have found a Maria Assunta Simi born in 1874 - but in February, not August as stated on her "find a grave" listing.
Here is the birth in Lucca in 1874- #295 (number is located on the page prior)
Father is Antonio Simi, farmer, son of deceased Marco Simi, and of Maria Stella Marlia, daughter of deceased Michele Marlia.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3811&i=820
I found no births for Vincenzo Giannini in the 10 year index of births 1866-1875, though the surname is frequent in Lucca.
As to the marriages. Checked the 10 year index for 1885 through 1895 and only found one Vincenzo Giannini. Married with Rosa Giusti in 1893 in Lucca.
POSSIBLE arrival of Vincenzo Giannini in 1892
Vincenzo Giannini
Arriving Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island), 1820-1957
Name Vincenzo Giannini
Gender Male
Age 24
Birth Date abt 1868
Departure Port Genoa, Italy
Arrival Date 28 Mar 1892
Arrival Port New York, New York, USA
Ship Name Werra

Re: Vincenzo Giannini born 1869 murdered 1905. Pescaglia(?) Lucca Toscana Italia
Thank you so much! And I am terribly sorry for the extended delay on my response. I am surprised by the inability to find their marriage above all other things. I was sure there was going to be something in the 1891 marriage records in Lucca but I went through them as well, one by one, and nothing... Possible he changed his name. I don't think I mentioned but at the time of his passing the Italian Newspaper said that he was survived in Italy by a Father and three sisters and that he also had two cousins in country at that time. It also says in no uncertain terms that he was from Pescaglia, Province di Lucca. It also spells his name wrong as Gianini instead of Giannini but that's the case with about half of the U.S documentation.

If Vincenzo was born in Pescaglia, there should be a publication of intent to marry (Pubblicazione) recorded in his hometown, whether he married there or in another town.
I checked the Pubblicazione from 1889 through 1892 in Pescaglia and did not find him.
