Meaning / Translation of Military Record

Hi all,

I have attached a copy of my great nonnos military record but some parts i do not understand.
It talks about his Legion being R.R.G.G Caserta & R.R.G.G. Spezia.
Does anyone know what the abreviation R.R.G.G. stands for?
Also when they say Caserta & Spezia are they meaning the places?
I was told he was a medic in the army but it only talks about the infantry regiments.
Does anyone know where i can request a better military record from? He was from Messina region in Sicily.

I don’t see anything there about him being a medic. I’m understanding that he was admitted to hospital and then discharged.

This “extract” sights Leo Morello’s birthdate as 8 April 1901 and doesn’t name his parents? Is 8 April 1901 the correct birthdate? Were his parents unknown?

This extract is dated 1992 and I’m understanding it to be a complete typed copy of the original. Are you sure it belongs to your great-grandfather? If you have any doubts the record belongs to your great-grandfather, you may like to write to the State Archives in Messina asking for a copy of Leo’s military record and any supporting documents, quoting his full name, date of birth and the names of his parents. (It may be handwritten though and the script is often hard to decipher.)

I am sorry I can’t help with your question I wish of could. But, how did you get his MilItary record from Italy? I live in USA and would like to find out if any of my ancestors were in the military in Italy.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Can tell you us more. What town and province in Italia were your family from? Generally you would begin by writing to the State Archives of the relative Province and make your request there. A few provinces though have digitised their military documents and have them on line. Set up a separate topic and I’m sure someone can help you with a letter and the correct address to write to.
