First – a huge thank you to Pippo!!! I had been searching on and off over the course of several years for genealogical documents for my Italian great grandparents. I found this forum a few weeks ago and spent time reading through posts in the different subgroups. I took a chance and posted to the Italian Genealogy sub to see if anyone had any information concerning my great grandparents’ surnames. I shared the facts I knew along with some documents I had found (marriage record, US Census) and within a day or two Pippo responded to my post and asked me a follow up question. A short time later, he found records I had been searching for for years! And even corrected our understanding of a previous record we had. Amazing!
With the new information I now have, I wonder whether I might have a 1948 case. I would look to go through my great grandmother.
1. GGM born in Ruoti in 1882.
2. GGF born in Ruoti in 1870.
3. Both great grandparents arrive in the U.S. from Italy (GGF – 1894 and GGM - 1902) and marry in NY in January 1904.
4. GGF naturalizes through common court of pleas in September 1904. No court records concerning GGM.
5. GGF and GGM both indicate on later US Census forms they were naturalized in 1904. I expect my GGM became naturalized through marriage and my GGF’s subsequent naturalization.
6. My grandfather was born in the US in August 1922. My parents were also born in the US.
Would these facts support a 1948 case? Thank you in advance.

Yes, with some reservations. Your ggm naturalized involuntarily through her husband, and this would normally be an easy 1948 case. However, since the naturalization took place prior to 2012, it adds a complication. Some lawyers will not accept combination 1912/1948 cases. Shop around.

Much appreciated! After doing some more research, it looks like if I move forward with a case it would be venued in Potenza. Both GGPs were born in Ruoti. I recall seeing a number of posts indicating that Potenza seems to be a difficult court to win these.
