I’m hoping someone would be willing to translate or just transcribe the handwritten paragraphs on the front and back of my ancestor Elena Primavera’s birth record.
From what I gather, she was a foundling born in April (hence the name) and the person who found her wrapped her up. But that’s as much as I could suss out!

Record #90 dated April 19, 1839 at 2 P.M. in the town hall of Castellone e Mola, District of Gaeta, Province Terra di Lavoro
Appearing before the town official was Concetta di Stefano, age 26, who was living in Castellone. Her occupation was that of “Pia Ricevitore” (she was a woman whose job it was to inspect daily la ruota/the wheel which was a mechanism in a building in the town (possibly a convent or hospital) where infants could be anonymously abandoned. The infant whom she presented was recognized to be the same one who had been exposed/abandoned at the wheel on the 19th at 8:30. There is then a description of the various types of cloths left with the infant, but there were no signs on the body or any file to indicate the ancestry of the infant. However, from the condition of the umbilical cord, it could be determined that the infant’s birth had taken place five days earlier (so the birth was determined to have occurred on the 14th of April). The infant was given the name Elena Primavera and baptized in the parish of S. Erasmo in the town, also on the 19th of April.
The town official assigned the infant to a woman, whom I believe was a balia (wetnurse). Infants were breast fed and not bottle fed at the time, and women who served as wetnurses were lactating women (some had recently given birth to their own infants-or had recently lost an infant). Often they also received stipends from their towns to nourish these abandoned infants. The woman’s name was Giuseppa Latrario??? (not sure of the spelling of her surname, as I can’t find the surname as I have deciphered it anywhere. I even tried substituting other initial letters). She was the wife of Angelantonio Purificato.
The presentation of the infant at the town hall was made in the presence of two witnesses:
1. Erasmo di Silva, age 66, a town servant who was living in Cassellone
2. Vincenzo di Silva, age 22, of the same profession and also a town resident.
Possibly someone else will add to what I have deciphered.
