Name crossed off Manifest
My ancestor (Maria Carmella Casella DiPalma) traveled with her infant son (DiPalma) in 1921 but his name is crossed off the manifest with a cross put over his name. Do you think this means he died on board the ship? This is nothing about him after they arrived. Screenshot attached.

Re: Name crossed off Manifest
In my experience a line-out usually meant the person didn't make the trip.
I don't know about the cross.
The surgeon's affidavit doesn't mention any deaths on board in that list, just 26 passengers in the physical and mental health as indicated on the manifest. Domenico is listed as "good".

If he died on board, maybe it's recorded elsewhere?

I only glanced at this quickly and didn't see the cross reference, but I think this is otherwise a valuable reference tool.

I don't find him on the detained list. If he didn't die onboard, perhaps he didn't make the trip - maybe he died in Italy before the ship sailed, or maybe he never came over or came over at a different time.
Re: Name crossed off Manifest
The handwritten "Expedite" over Maria's line seems to indicate that it was necessary to hurry her disembarkment (probably due to her child's illness.) On the second page of the manifest her destination was changed from her husband to her brother P. Casella at 341 E. 90th St. NYC. Perhaps that was closer than her husband's address of "76 Shpole Ave. NY"
