Molfetta: 2 April 1875

Groom: Sergio Cirilli, 25 yo, Vetturale (cab driver), born and residing in Molfetta, son of Saverio (Cirilli) and of Lucrezia Sgherza both residing Molfetta

Bride: Carmela Pansini, 19 yo, filatrice (spinner), born and residing in Molfetta, daughter of Lonardo (Pansini) and of Giovanna Modugno, both residing Molfetta.

At the base of the record it gives the dates the banns were posted, the first was on 7 March 1875, and the second 14 March 1875

I was hoping this would give a bit more info about the respective parents of bride and groom like age and occupation but it doesn’t. Interesting though, because the Pubblication gives Carmela’s father’s name to be Michele Pansini not Lonardo Pansini?


Edit to Add:

I’ve located Carmela’s birth record which confirms that her parents were Michele (not Lonardo) Pansini and Giovanna Modugno. Obviously there is an error on the marriage record. Bottom right corner confirms her 1875 marriage to Sergio Cirilli/o. I looked through the indices 1855-1857 inclusive and this was the only Carmela Pansini I saw.

Birth No 194: Carmela Pansini
Registered Molfetta on 18 March 1855

Appearing before the official was Michele Pansini, the son of Luigi (Pansini), 40 yo, a contadino, living in Strada Termite. He presented a baby girl born from Giovanna Modugno, daughter of Ignazio, his legitimate wife, 30 yo, living herein, and from himself the declarant, details as above. The baby was born on 18 March 1855 at 3 am in his own home, and was given the name of Carmela Pansini. She was baptised in the parish of San Corrado on 19 March 1855.

Bottom right marriage annotation which we already know about: On 2 April 1875, (Act) No 70, in Molfetta, Carmela Pansini, daughter of Michele, married with Sergio Cirillo/i son of Saverio.

BTW: I'm intrigued by the surname "Sgherza". As you trace back it will be interesting to see how it evolved.

I can't recall coming across the name Sgherza before either, but apparently it appears in Italia, mainly in the South. I'm very familiar with the word "sgherz/o" though which my parents would use some time to mean "a joke" or sometimes to mean being "light hearted" about something.

The daughter was baptized in the Church of San Corrado in Molfetta, probably in her baptism record is stated the church where her parents got married.
