Division on Navy Record

Post by darkerhorse »

I expect this to be the last in a series of Navy records to decipher.

Enlisted in and re-enlisted where 2nd Fl or F1 Division.

Is that FL for Florida or F1 for something else?

Any thoughts?

I believe it stands for "Naval District Florida". It may likely be the base in Pensacola, my recently deceased uncle served there...

Thanks. That's very helpful. It does look more like an l than an i.

He served on the U.S.S. Lammon in the 1930s and on the U.S.S. Tuscaloosa during WWII.

Florida would be unexpected. I'll do more research to see if I can confirm it.

This article mentions Pensacola, so I guess it's a bingo!

I have another question about the above document. It comes from the NY National Guard Service Cards, 1917-1954. I thought it was for service in the U.S. Navy. Was this for service in the National Guard?

Thanks. Yes, I saw that, but I assumed it just meant Navy. However, I just searched it and see it can be the Reserves or the Guard under state authority. So maybe he was in the Naval Reserves?
