Hi,

Need help on this Umberto Barile birth record. Extra text is for marriage to Sofia Califano. I believe there are dates. Can anyone determine writing above and below Sofia Califano?

"On 14 March 1907 marries Sofia Califano."

The date below is when the record was annotated. 28 March/May? 1907

Could the annotation date be 28/12/1907? Personally, that date is not the important one.

Exactly. I also checked to see if I could locate the Marriage Record for this couple and didn't locate it. I also checked for the Pubblications. I then looked for any trees pertaining to this couple on Family Search and saw that Sofia was not born in Nocera. So I checked that town but I think the records were missing for that year. I can't quite remember now. I've lost my notes. Her town suggested on Family Search was Pagani. I didn't continue with the search because I don't always trust trees that don't reference the information given. It also seemed that all the years I was needing were missing which is possibly why there are only "estimated years" for various events. (Going from memory.)

Angela was born in Pagani. I also check for marriage records in Pagani and Nocera but they are not available.
Do you know if back then marriages took place in the brides town?

Yes, generally marriages took place in the brides town. I also checked Pagani and as you say the records are unavailable for that year and no pubblications either. Are you sure they married in Italia and not in the US? If the tree I saw was correct, they had a son in the US a year later.

What previous information did you have that Sofia was born in Pagani?

Why don't you write to both towns, Pagani and Nocera and ask for the marriage record. Generally when they annotate the birth record they give the name of the town as well as the place of the event, in this case the marriage, but they haven't this time?

Edit to Add: Ask for both the Atto di Matrimonio and also the Pubblicazioni di Matrimonio. The Pubblicazioni would be posted in both Nocera and Pagani.
