Alesandro Esposito/Teresa Ferraro Naples to Brooklyn, NY

Post by bdecraene »

I am researching my great-great grandparents Alesandro (Alexander) Esposito & Teresa Ferrara or Ferraro. I believe they were from Naples, Italy. Arrived in U.S. Aril 10, 1874 on the ship San Pietro. Port of departure was Castellamare. Were also traveling with a young boy named Eugene Galante. Eugene took the last name of Esposito when he came to U.S. They settled in Brooklyn & also had children Marie (Mary), Nellie & Fortunata. Alexander worked as a stevedore & later as a grocer. He was born approx. 1840 & on his death certificate his parents are listed as Gaetano Esposito & Maria ?. He died 2/8/1899. Teresa Ferraro was born 10/1844 & lists her parents as Salvatore Ferraro & Costanza. She died 6/11/1905.
Anyone out there related to this family?? Any suggestions on researching the Esposito name in Naples?
Appreciate any help that can be provided
Thanks!

I think in order to research any name you need to collect as much US documentation about your family as possible. The rule is to start with what you know ans work backwards. Once you have established that info and have obtained all the documentation you can to support it you can start by ordering microfilm from the family history libraries that are in you area. You may be able to get a birth, death or marriage extract of your Espositos which will provide you details on parents, spouses, etc which will allow you to continue to work backwards. You will need to have some knowledge of the family before you begin..names, birth years, siblings, parents. etc before you begin or you will be searching blinding.

Hope this makes sense.

bdecraene,

I have a painting by Gaetano Esposito titled: Marin Adi Napoli or Marina Di Napoli.

It's oil on canvas, quite large too. I don't have the actual dimensions, I can get those tomorrow.

Artists signature on the painting is Gaetano Esposito (1858-1911).

I've been trying to find out more information online regaring this painting but I haven't had much luck yet. I can't even seem to find the artists bio.

bdecraene, do you have any information regarding this painting? Could you provide me with some information regarding Gaetano if you don't mind my asking?

Any information would be a big help.

Thank you very much,

Neil Jack
