D'Angelo from Cesacastina.
Re: D'Angelo from Cesacastina.
Cesacastina is a frazione of Crognaleto. That helps explain the place of birth discrepancy.

Lot's of people here to help - it's nice when it all starts
to come together!
One question you had:
I thought he was born in March, and the
birthplace doesn't match, but I'll ask my mom
about his birthday.
At the time Carmine registered he didn't read/write
in English. The card is faded where it says May it could
be March. Carmine couldn't have proof read the
information that was written down for him.
(note on his signature line that he 'made his mark')
Hope that helps a bit.

Are there phone books or the like available on line
for foreign countries;
when my grandfather died, he left a letter, unmailed,
to his sister.
Absolutely!

Re: D'Angelo from Cesacastina.
What does non-immigrant alien mean?
On the 1913 manifest page one, note the 'D' in the column
before her name.
Your grandmother claimed to be a US citizen.
Her father/husband may have naturalized.

Great finds Valarie!
TheresaM,
With your family roster expanding, you might want to use the free forms and/or program available at the Family History Center to help keep your data organized.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Home/We ... mation.asp
Once you've organized your infromation, if you're interested in researching Italian records, the Crognaleto records from 1809 to 1910 are available on microfilm which can be rented and viewed at a local center. I'm pretty sure that records for Cesacastina since it was a subdivision of Crognaleto will be included.

Thank you - that's definitely my next step. Is there a waiting period to rent films; do they need to request them from somewhere else?

Re: D'Angelo from Cesacastina.
Here's a link to locate the nearest Family History Center.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp
After you've located the nearest FHC, you can have the local FHC request the film(s) you want. Each roll costs around $5.75 for a month's rental and can be viewed at the local center. I believe turnaround time for the microfilm to arrive is about two to three weeks.
Get yourself organized first and read some background information on how to interpret the documents before you order the microfilm. You might want to begin by ordering one or two of the later microfilm rolls and work your way backwards.

Re: D'Angelo from Cesacastina.
The detained page is really interesting. I wonder who Nicodemo might be -maybe a brother of Carmine?
Re: D'Angelo from Cesacastina.
Probably not if you know for sure Carmine's father's name was Emidio. A cousin perhaps? A friend--last name is De Angelis not D'Angelo.TheresaM wrote:The detained page is really interesting. I wonder who Nicodemo might be -maybe a brother of Carmine?
edited--using Steve Morse search engine for town beginning with "crog" found both De Angelis and D'Angelo records

His father's name was definitely Emidio; I'll ask my mom about Nicodemo or Daniela. Hopefully she might remember if they lived nearby.

If it's the same family, maybe Antonio and Carmine's father, Emidio, were brothers. More questions for mom.......
