Need help with my avatar

Post by peggymckee »

Hi!

I would like to use a gif file as my avatar--but I can't figure out how to do it.

Please help. The file is the Stazzema Coat of Arms. I don't know how to put it on the web & then link to it--which seems to be what you need.

Right now the image is on my PC. I tried to upload it to my photo album on this site, but either it didn't work or the administrator hasn't approved it. If the file is successfully uploaded to my photo album, can I then use it as my avatar?

Many thanks, Peg

Dear Jon,

I can tell you what I did, but if it doesn't work, I don't think I can help further. I used http://imageshack.us . You have to register. Then I uploaded my image. I selected the size choice for Avatar. Image Shack created 5 different image codes.

On the "my avatar" page on this forum, I pasted in the 5th image code in the box, the one on the image shack page labeled "Direct link to image". This was a guess on my part, but it seemed to work.

Good luck, Peg

Wow Peg, I just looked up Stazzema and read about the horrible massacre at the hands of The Germans during WWII. 560 villagers lost their lives!

So very sad... :(

corrado,

If you need any help posting or resizing your avatar feel free to PM with the info and I'll be glad to help.

If you have a chance to read the wiki, I would highly recommend it. I learned a lot by using it.

Thanks for putting it together for us, Bob!

No problem Peg..

If you have any questions, let me know, ok and I'll try to answer them.

You might also want to consider downloading an image resizer. I found it works great for resizing census records and other documents that are either too larger to upload or are too small..and its very simple to use.

Here's the link. I hope it helps.
