Translation Certificato Di Nascita

I am trying to locate ancestors born in Bedollo. My great-grandmother, Domenica Casagranda was born there in 1885. I need help translating the following document:

Dai registri dei Nati questa Parrocchia al Tomo V, pag. 119, No 18 risota che:

CASAGRANDA DOMENICA figlia di

Padre: Antonio di Giov. battista e Domenica Toniolli

e di Madre: Mazzani Virginia fu Giovanni e Casagrand Rosa e nata in Bedollo il giorno trenta maggion milleottocento e ottant cinque (30. V/1885) e fu battezzata in questa Chiesa li 31 detto.

I understand the string of names is parents (?) but my Italian is zip - I can't figure out what the "fu" and "battista e" parts mean. I have found a family tree with an Antonio Domenica that could be a relative - but I need more dates and details to confirm.

Any help with translation and tips on how to research up this tree much appreciated.

From the Register of Births in this Parish at Book V, page 119, No.118 it results that:

CASAGRANDA DOMENICA daughter of

Father: Antonio (son of) of Giovanni battista and Domenica Toniolli

and of Mother: Mazzani Virginia of Giovanni and Casagrand Rosa
was born in Bedollo on the thirtieth of May Eighteen eighty five. (30.V/1885) and was baptised in this church the 31st ditto. (the same month)


The "battista" however 'could' be part of his first name of Giovanni battista (John the Baptist). So his name would be Giovanni-battista Toniolli.

if you'll like to know about the surname:
CASAGRANDA (changed into years to CASAGRANDE) means "big house".
This was the surname given to children of unknow parents and, as Republic of Venice laws, which were grown up all togheter in a "big house" (from which the surname cames).
You can find also surname as "DEL PIO LUOGO" o "DELLA PIETÀ" (which was DEL PIO OSPITALE DI VENEZIA or DELLA PIETÀ DI VENEZIA).
The Pio Ospitale di Venezia (Venice's Pio Hospital) was the place were the "unknown" mothers left their just born children. After a few the children was given to a family in territory of the Republic of Venice ("tolti a latar" taken to give milk), were they will grow and stay, abitually as servant, and taking the surname DEL PIO LUOGO or DELLA PIETÂ or CASAGRANDA.
Your Grand-grandmother grandfather was probably one of these children

I know this is a very old thread, but about 10 years or so ago i had done quite a lot of genealogy research and today i was looking at some old notes and stumbled across this thread. I believe that the Giovanni Casagrande and Rosa Casagrande referenced in here are my grandfathers grandparents and i have quite alot of information on the tree. you are correct that i have traced Giovannia father Alessandro to the Pio Ospitale di Venezia 1818. I dont have any information on Dominica other than that name comes up in records in New Jersey near where my family lived. It appears as though there may be a connection to Virginia, daughter of Giovanni and Rosa.

Not sure if this thread is monitored anymore, but if there is any additional information I would be very interested.
