Searching for grandfather's home

Ohhh, his mother! I have calls in to both of my uncles asking them to call me when they get home. I will try to get more info. I know one uncle told me he ran away from the farm. And went to Scotland for a bit too. I was told he was from North Italy and one uncle says LaBoots?? and one said Roccia Viva?? My mother said Roccia Viva I think. It's so confusing I only wish I had just asked him but he passed away in 1970 and I was so young.

Oh my goodness! That is him and my grandmother and mother! Thank you so much! My brother has a copy of some of my grandfathers papers and is going to check and see what he can find. I will give more info as soon as I get any.

The Langellotti on the census is my Aunt, my grandmother's sister, and Michael Rizzo is her brother. I wish my mother could see this! Thanks!

If I located the correct manifest for your grandmother, her destination was Oneonta to join her brother Nicola and she was travelling with sister Luisa and brother Michele. Here's a possible 1930 Census for a Nicholas and Anna Rizzo in Oneonta. His occupation is shown as the proprietor of a dry goods store. Still trying to locate the 1920 census.

In reading your post I see you have relatives named Rizzo. I also have a Rizzo background. My GG grandma on my paternal side was Caterina Rizzo and my GG grandma on my maternal side was Concetta Rizzo. My family is southern Italian, Calabrese from CZ VV towns named Brognaturo, Spadola and Simbario.

See what you find, you never know, we could be long lost cousins!

My grandmother with her sister and brother, going to meet their older brother. She has another brother that came over later. She was from Rutino?? near Salerno? I'm not sure about the spelling or location yet. I'm still learning so much and I'm loving every second of it.

HI.

Yes, Rutino is a smaller town in Provincia of Salerno, but not so near to Salerno. It's on a hill and has the train station too. My father loved so much this little village and he always stopped there for a coffe break when he was in travel.

Thanks for the map Antonio, looks like our Rizzo families lived too far apart for starmaker and I to have been cousins. Maybe some day I'll meet someone on the site that is from my little area in Italy.

I haven't seen anyone post back on your original thread Antonio, have you gotten any information yet? Maybe someone posting to this thread can take a look at yours to see if they can help there also.

Yes, Rizzo, that is my grandmother's manifest (Giovanna) and her sister and brother. Am I reading that correctly that her father's name is Salvatore? I never knew that! Is there any way to find any information in Rutino? Maybe I could find a church there if and when I go to Italy. My dream one day of going to see where my grandparents came from.

You can go to the LDS website and order the microfilms for your grandmother and your grandfathers towns. The films contain birth acts, marriage banns, death notices etc.

Here is the site, check and see if you have a research center near you

You have to view the films at one of their centers.

You can also try your local library and see if they have subscriptions to any of the genealogy sites.

Biff or vj !!! Can you give more information and a better explanation about using the resources at the library, I've never used my local library, I only know about it from other threads on the site.

I ordered films and apparently no one has ever asked for the films I'm using so I get to keep them indefinately! Guess I got lucky.

There is one road which connects all three towns and each town is within a mile of each other. Brognaturo is first, 1 mile north is Spadola and 1 mile north of Spadola is Simbario.

I'm a little norther (say so?). My origin is a little village, "Casanova di Carinola"where starts the Giovanni and Giuseppe's odissey as you know, but i live in Avellino, a town at about 50 km. from Neaples.
