Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me identify some of the markings on the below passenger list (pages 1 & 2). First, it looks like there is an "X" next to line 22 for Alessandro Luppi (my great grandfather), yet there is no mention of him (or the others he travelled with) in the list of detained passengers. Next, on the second page, it looks like it says "Dr Cert" and then I think it says "Senility." Can someone please confirm that? I believe that refers to his mother, Beatrice who was travelling with him. Seems to me that 64 is pretty young to be senile! Also, there is a third person travelling with them, a Gregorio Carratelli and there is a notation as to his relationship but I can make it out. Does that say cousin maybe? Thanks!

Re: Help With Passenger Manifest Markings
Next to Gregorio's name is says cousin, it also says for Alessandro he has been in america before 1907-1911 and yes it looks like it says Dr. Cert senility for Beatrice.
I don't know if I'd believe she was really senile. At 64, from a small village, coming to unfamiliar surroundings and not speaking the language, it's very possible she may not have been real cooperative with the authorities. If it were me, I'd be pretty scared. Maybe she was just misunderstood.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Elizabeth

Re: Help With Passenger Manifest Markings
Thank you! Yes, I knew that Alessandro had been to the US before. I have the passenger record from 1907 when he and my great grandmother arrived for the first time. Alessandro apparently went back to Italy to bring Mama to the US! I thought the same thing about Beatrice and her mental state. From my research, it sounds like perhaps the officials determined that she would not be able to make her own way and support herself (alone) in the US. She of course, went to live with Alessandro so it never became an issue. Once again, thank you so much for your help!
