caserta and cassino

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Hi John

http://www.zum.de/whkmla/histatlas/italy/haxitaly.html

The link I'm providing you with gives you map's from c.500 to 1965 and along with it you can click on the text files next to any map. It gives a nice summary of the events and unification of that time.

Hope it's helpful.

Regards,
Elizabeth
