mi chiamo .... (your first and last name) e sono cittadino statunitense di origini italiane, discendente di Chiocchi Pasquale nato a Avellino (frazione: Valle di Avellino) il 6 Gennaio 1882, figlio di Generoso e Marotta Maddalena.
Chiocchi Pasquale emigrò in USA la prima volta nel 1902 e successivamente, dopo essere tornato indietro in Italia per due volte, ritornò in USA nel 1911 e poi nel 1912.
Chiocchi Pasquale sposò in prime nozze Rego/a Assunta e successivamente, rimasto vedovo, sposò Maccario (?) Lucia con la quale si stabilì definitivamente in USA nell'ultimo viaggio del 1912.

Al fine di conoscere l'esatta situazione familiare di Chiocchi Pasquale e ogni dato necessario in merito al primo matrimonio con Rego/a Assunta e notizie della stessa, con la presente il Sottoscritto cortesemente richiede a codesto Spett.le Servizi Demografici quanto oggetto della presente.

Ok I think I hit another wall here.

I went down to Trenton to the Federal Archives building. I found Pasquales death certificate and his sons Generoso's Birth Certificate.

Here is the weird part.

Pasquale arrived in 1902 ellis island records.
his wife Assunta Rega hasno records of her coming here from ellis island.
The 1910 census shows pasquale, his wife Assunta and son Joeseph. on the census she stated she has been in the states since 1906. And states they have been married for 2 years.

Now it gets tricky here.

In 1910 Generoso was born, however on his birth certificate it shows his mother Assunta Rega as having a 2 children from this marriage but only 1 is alive. I would imaging the alive one is Generoso. she was 17 years old when she had Generoso.

Now factor in prior to his birth she had been married 2 years. That would put the marriage approximately around 1907 or 1908. Also the other child must have died at birth or something like that.

I checked birth mariage and death records from the years of 1904 all the way through 1912 and their are no records of this child, or Assunta.

Now, Ellis island record shows Pasquale coming back from Italy with his son in 1911 without Assunta....notes state he left her behind.

The only thing I can figure out of all this is the following.

1901 Pasqual arrived
1906 Assunta arrived
1908 they married
1908 mis-carried first child " no records indicating this"
1910 birth of Generoso
1910 Assunta got deathly ill and traveld back to Italy with family
1911 Pasquale and Generoso come back to America. "ex Assunta death"
1911 Pasquale and Generoso go back to Italy for an arranged marriage
1912 Pasquale and generoso arrive back in America with new wife Lucia Maccanico.

This is crazy. I still do not know anything about Assunta....On Generoso's Birth Certificat she claims Rega is her maiden name. If so then what name would she have come to the states with? There are no records of either last name for Assunta Rega or Assunta Chiocchi. And no Marriage licencse in the states for her or death record for her and first child unknown.

I think I have one more avenue to check and thats to order the micro film from the later day saints church in my neighborhood to find out what happened in Italy.

If anyone can find any information out please tell me....I have been at this a very long time now..

Hi Kenny: with this data, are only an Rega female person, age 14 in 1906 , emigrated 1906, coming from Polla (Salerno province)near Avellino, but...
the first name is ANGELA!

Well, I dont know what to say. This women is evading me now. This might be her but not sure. I know she came here in 1906 and was roughly the age 13 or 14....that record you showed me shows her being age 14. I dont know for sure if its her.

My question is this,

On my grandfathers birth certificate it shows ASSUNTA REGA, now i find it kind of silly that the person in ellis island would misconstrude this as angela. Also at age 14 wouldnt you think she came here with her father or mother or even both of them? I dont see them on the record. The record also shows this women going to NY not NJ...I would think it would have to be NJ becuase shortly after 1906 my G Grandfather married her.

I dont really know and I am stuck for words right now. My only other choice now is to send for the microfilms from Utah which I did today. I should have them in 3 weeks time hopefully. In the mean time I am sending a letter to the church where my G Grandfather attended and ask if they have a marriage certificate of him.

Hi Kenny,
Don't be surprised if Assunta is listed as Angela at Ellis. For years I have been trying to find my family working with the name I had for my grandfather. I couldn't find him at Ellis either. It turns out that his true birth name was different than the first name he used in America.

I looked at the record for Angela. And she is not alone. She is traveling with 6 other people from Polla. Very possibly one or more of them is a relative. Do any of these names ring a bell for you? Also look at the entries for her sisters, MariaRosa Rega (1907) and Guiseppa Rega (1903).

Yes, I know that this record not is possible, in common are only : surname, initial first name, age and year of emigration....
soon answer from Avellino's Common will arrive...and you will know many infos..

I read your post and noticed it's been almost a year since your last post. Hopefully your e-mail address is still the same and you will be notified of this reply. My name is Dennis Chiocchi and I have been trying to get information on my grandfather and grandmother also. I found your post very interesting and think we could have a common tread. My grandfathers name was Antonio Chiocchi and according to his naturlization papers, he is from Avellino also. When I got copies of his naturalization papers I also discovered that this was the first document I seen where my grandfather had a middle name listed. From what I could make out, his middle name appeared to be Gerad. I can't recall where I seen it, but somewhere in the pile of papers I have collected over the years I seem to recall something stating he had an uncle in Patterson NJ. which rang a bell because I could recall my father telling me stories about some aunt he had in Patterson NJ who was rather large and broke the seat in his car. My father was born in 1916 and has been dead since 1984. All his brothers are now deceased and half his sisters also. The sisters that are alive are lucky to remember their names so they can't offer me any help at all. All the information I do have has been gleamed from various documents I have collected over the years. I have a lot of conflicting dates and spellings from one document and another. My granfathers Alien Registration form which was filled out in 1938 list his birth date as May 18, 1885, it also states he arrived in the US in March 1904 in the Port of NY and traveled on the Regina Elena. The Passenger Manifest from the ship shows he was 18 when he arrived in March which would mean he would have been born in 1887. His marriage license issued by NY shows he was 23 on June 1, 1910 which means he would have been born 1887. His father's name (my great grandfather) is Domenico Chiocchi and his mother's (my great grandmother) maiden name was Teresa Sessa.
