ianniello in Santa Maria Capua

Post by oilman19 »

my family name is Ianniello from the town of Santa Maria Capua Vetere in Caserta, region of Campania.
My grandfather is Fioravanti, born May 28, 1890 married Anna(?) Martola or Martillo, daughter of Pasquale Martola and Maria ? and born abt 1890.
Fioravante emigrated to U.S. through Ellis Island on 1/22/1914. I cannot find the record of Anna's emigration with her 2 sons Antonio and Pietro.
I have a mystery to solve. My mother was born is U.S. on 1/17/1918. Her mother's name is listed as Anna Martillo. When my grandmother died that same year, the death certificate listed her first name as Fera. I cannot explain the discrepancy. I am hoping an official record from S.M. Capua will solve the mystery.
Much thanks for any help.

Hi Laura,

My portal into Santa Maria is going to be through Fioravante Ianniello and Antonia Martora (or Martola). Antonia apparently had a brother in U.S. named Francesco that helped the family get started. I have never been able to find his entry into U.S. or his name on any census reports (assuming his name did not change). Have you access to any info on his emigration?
I do hope to find birth info on Fioravante & Antonia on the microfilm from the Family Search Center (Mormans) from around 1890 in Santa Maria. I will then look for their matrimony abt. 1911 in Santa Maria. My spirits have been boosted.

Thank you again,

Jim

Hi Laura,

This is amazing. I have confirmation of Fiori's age and birthday from his WW2 Registration, my mother's birth certificate, and his Manifest on the ship Berlin arriving at Ellis Island on January 22, 1914. My daughter and I think he may have lied about his age to avoid the draft into the military service. We still believe his birthday to be May 28, 1890. I will try to confirm that date on the microfilm from the Mormons (when the film arrives).
Thank you very much for the document.
It seems every time I find a document, there is a new mystery to solve (especially the spelling of names).
Have you any opinion about the name "Fera" on Antonia's death certificate? It is listed as her first name.
Thank you again. You are an excellent researcher.

Jim,

I don't know if you're talking about the same person but I noticed that when Fioravanti landed in NY on 1914 he stated he was joining his brother in law Francesco Perrotta in New Haven 417 Wales? street....

Found several records for this person... he was married with Teresa:
He came back to his home in the USA (for the second time) just with the same ship were Fioravanti was travelling:

Laura
Hi Laura,

You have been busy. I did have the 1930 census record.
I'm finding your information about Francesco Perrotta very interesting. He was from S. Maria and did live in Westville section of New Haven, CT and his name looks very much like the one referenced on Fiori's Manifest. However, I have Antonia's mother as Maria and Fiori's mother as Anna (sources questionable). Francesco's mother is Rosa.
Right now, the only common thread I have is his name similarity and his location. I will continue to look for other connections. I am hoping the microfilm from Mormons of S. Maria 1889-1890 records will answer some questions for me.
You are a wealth of information. How did you ever find my grandmother's manifest? I looked through thousands of records and could not find it.
You have made me more confident of finding more ancestors. It is a wonderful feeling.
Thank you again.

Laura,
I have finally been able to link Francesco Perrotta to my family tree. He was married to Teresa Tamburrino, the daughter of Antonio, the brother of my g grandmother.
It has only taken 6 months to make this connection and I couldn't have done it without your help.
I had to let you know that I am still making progress and now have more confirmed "cousins" in U.S.
A great big THANK YOU for helping me to get this far.

:D Jim, thank you very much... I love when people update their "genealogy situation" and especially when they remember people that are giving help on the forum....
I especially love when the "lost" relationships with the italian side "cousins" start again... I wish you all the best in this too....

Ciao!

Hi Laura,
Is there any way to determine if Francesco and Teresa were married in U.S. or Santa Maria C.V. circa 1902? I have some conflicting info that I hope the marriage certificate will resolve, but I'm not sure where to look for it.

Thank you,

Jim
